Contact Lens - Types

There are two broad categories of contact lenses, soft lenses and gas permeable rigid contact lenses both of which are customised to your individual prescription.

Types of contact lenses include:
• Spherical Lenses - These are used to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness.
• Bifocal Lenses - These are used to correct presbyopia by having two different prescriptions on a single lens.
• Toric Lenses - There are used to correct astigmatism as well as nearsightedness or farsightedness.

Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses follow the shape of the eye and are more flexible when compared with gas permeable contact lenses. Wearers often find them more comfortable and they can be easier to adapt to, than gas permeable lenses. If you are keen on particular sports and involved in a lot of physical activity, these lenses may be preferred, as they tend to stay in place more than their counterparts.

Advantages of Soft Contact Lenses over Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
• Flexible
• Comfortable
• Available in short and long term wear use
• Easier to adjust to
• Less likely to move out of position
